Code of Ethics

The basic ingredients of professional behavior are a high level of technical competence and unimpeachable integrity. Achieving and maintaining these elements are the responsibility of the individual appraiser. In the appraisal profession, with almost exclusive reliance placed on the opinions or judgements of appraisers, the hallmarks of professional behavior are technical competence, objectivity, and unquestioned honesty or integrity.

  1. Conduct: Members shall conduct their appraisal practice in a manner that will reflect credibility upon the real estate appraisal profession and the National Reverse Mortgage Appraisers Association. All Members shall refrain from conduct that is detrimental to the NRMAA, the real estate appraisal profession, and the public.
  2. Time: We understand that reverse mortgage clients may require more time during the inspection process. Our members understand that we are on the front line of your companies customer service and promise to conduct ourselves in an appropriate manner.
  3. Respect: We agree to treat all clients with respect and dignity, and in a manner that is fair and reasonable, and as they would want to be treated.
  4. Honesty: We agree to conduct our business in an honest manner. We will not mislead, or give false expectations.
  5. Professionalism: We agree to complete our appraisal reports and conduct our business in a professional manner at all times. We will provide our services in a competent manner.
  6. Client Satisfaction: We strive for nothing less than excellence. While we strive for complete satisfaction, we understand that not all customers will be happy with the results of our appraisals. We promise to take the time to explain our reports to your clients.
  7. Compliance with Law: We members shall conduct our business in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  8. Community Awareness: We will be aware of issues of elder abuse and take appropriate actions with our community resources. When any kind of abuse occurs, most people are afraid or embarrassed to tell anyone. If we suspect financial or physical abuse, we will contact local agencies for further investigation.
  9. Education: Members shall accept only those appraisal assignments for which they have the time and the competency to complete in a professional manner. They shall not accept appraisal assignments in which they have a present or contemplated future interest or personal bias unless such personal interest or bias is disclosed to the client prior to acceptance of assignment. Said personal interest or bias shall be disclosed in each report resulting from such assignment. The Member shall use care in soliciting appraisal services and shall avoid advertising or solicitation that is misleading or otherwise contrary to the public interest.
